Talk at the Pecha Kucha Night + Inspire Japan Charity Event on April 16th, 2011

I did a casual presentation at the Pecha Kucha Night + Inspire Japan Charity Event on April 16th, 2011.

http://global-day.pecha-kucha.org/

I talked about the practical reasons behind Zen meditation and garden. But the talk had to be in 20 slides x 20 second format. That was challenge to me.

You can watch my talk at the event on the Ustream TV. My talk comes up around 35 minutes from the beginning. But other talks are very interesting and inspiring.

In 2000, Former U.S. President Bill Clinton proclaimed June to be Gay and Lesbian Pride month. Shunkoin Temple would like honor these decisions and to increase the understanding of gay and lesbian rights by promoting same-sex weddings at our temple during the month of June, 2011.

Cherry Blossom Condition at Shunkoin Temple and Kyoto

The cherry blossoms at Shunkoin Temple are blooming about 30%. But the temperature is about 17 degrees Celsius today. Thus, cherry blossoms are reaching the peak in a couple of days in Kiyomizu Temple, Kodaiji Temple, and along the Kamo river.

Monday, April 4, 2011

Cherry Blossom's Condition at Shunkoin Temple

The best time to enjoy cherry blossoms in Kyoto is this weekend. The blossoms just started blooming since it is been cold for this season.

Also, this is the quietest cheery blossom season in Kyoto due to inaccurate media coverages and travel alerts which increased unnecessary fears. But those who know Japan well are here to enjoy the blossoms without bothered by the crowd of people.

If you are worried about the radiation level here, it is 0.03 - 0.04 microsievert/hour, which is the same as the normal natural radiation level in Kyoto. That means there is no effect by the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant accient, which is 725 km away from here.

According to the Bloomberg, some other major cities in the world have much higher raditaion level than Kyoto's level and even Tokyo's one (0.08 - 0.09 microsievert/hour due to the accident).

You can check the other cities' natural radiation levels on
